Ernest L. Proud, Jr.

Ernest L. Proud, Jr.
Vice Chairman
7-2-33 to 5-17-02

Ernie Proud joined McQueary and Henry, Inc. in 1993 as Vice President of Sales and soon became Chief Operating Officer. As M & H grew, Ernie was shepherding the growth and finding great people to join the team. In 1996 Ernie took the lead in making the three-way merger of McQueary and Henry, Inc., Bowles Troy and Associates, and the R. A. Hammit Agency come together as McQueary Henry Bowles Troy, LLP. He was elected Vice Chairman in 2002.

Ernie was a man of integrity and a hard worker. Until his final illness he had never missed a day of work in his entire career. Ernie could be tough as a nail but was always fair. Under his leadership our staff grew from 70 in 1996 to 150 in 2002. Ernie will be lovingly remembered for his famous weather reports . . . he would get out about 4 AM on days of ice and snow and drive around and then leave a voice mail description of conditions for the employees. You know, I don't recall that it was ever too bad to get to work!

Ernie graduated from Adamson HS in Dallas and Southern Methodist University with a major in insurance. He also received the CPCU and ARM designations. He served Employers Insurance of Texas Companies for 35 years including Chairman, President, and CEO. "Ernie may be the best true executive I've ever known", said Bill Henry. We are grateful to Loveda, Lisa, Tisa, Cindy, Russell, and Fred for sharing him with us these many years. MHBT would not be where we are today without the leadership and commitment of our good friend, Ernest L. Proud, Jr. CPCU, ARM.
